Missy Higgins was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame at the 2024 ARIA Awards, celebrating her iconic career and advocacy for Australian music. Relive the night’s unforgettable performances and heartfelt moments.

On November 20, 2024, Australian music legend Missy Higgins was officially inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame during a spectacular ceremony held at Sydney's Hordern Pavilion on Gadigal land. This milestone marked two decades of Missy’s unparalleled contributions to the Australian music landscape, celebrated through her heartfelt storytelling, chart-topping hits, and advocacy for local artists.

A Night to Remember

Higgins’ induction ceremony featured an emotional speech and a breathtaking performance. Sharing the stage with some of Australia’s top talent — Amy Shark, Angie McMahon, Gretta Ray, and G Flip — Missy delivered a powerful medley of her greatest hits. G Flip, who also took home the “Song of the Year” award for “The Worst Person Alive,” joined the ensemble, adding to the night’s electrifying energy.

Missy Higgins’ Emotional Acceptance Speech

Missy Higgins’ induction speech was filled with gratitude and reflection. She began with heartfelt thanks to her peers:

"What an incredible honour it is to accept this award and to stand up here tonight in front of all you guys, my music pals, my music industry family. Some of you I’ve been touring alongside for over 23 years. And I feel so bloody fortunate to have shared this journey with you all."

Missy also used her platform to advocate for the preservation of Australian music:
"We have to keep demanding local content here. We can’t lose Australian stories. We lose that, we lose who we are."

Missy Higgins: A Legacy of Success

Missy Higgins burst onto the scene in 2004 with her debut album The Sound of White, featuring unforgettable hits like “Scar” and “The Special Two.” The record achieved 12-times platinum certification and topped the ARIA Albums Chart for seven non-consecutive weeks.

Her subsequent albums — On A Clear Night (2007), The Ol’ Razzle Dazzle (2012), and her latest release, The Second Act (2024) — solidified her as one of Australia's most celebrated singer-songwriters. The Second Act debuted at No. 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart and earned Higgins the Best Australian Live Act award for her sold-out tour, which saw over 100,000 tickets sold.

Missy on Her Creative Process

In a September interview with Rolling Stone AU/NZ, Higgins reflected on her long breaks between albums:
"I generally take really big breaks in between albums... It’s like the ‘birth, death, rebirth’ circle. Going around and around."

Her Second Act tour, which initially overwhelmed her emotionally, ultimately proved therapeutic:
"I was in tears at the beginning of this tour because I didn’t know how I was going to sing these songs every night. But it turned out to be the best bloody therapy."
